eScience Interns Bring Science to City Kids Camp

This year, as part of the 2014 Summer Community Outreach Program, five interns packed into a car on a road trip to Wyoming.  In collaboration with the City Kids camp, the interns had the chance to share many of the experiments that eScience produces with City Kids campers. City Kids is a camp that offers kids from vulnerable locations in Washington D.C. an opportunity to go to Wyoming, where campers learn critical skills which allow them to succeed outside of a typical classroom setting. With great enthusiasm and engaging experiments interns did just that—kids got to shoot off rockets, build boats, grow crystals, and extract DNA from grapes. Campers got to make hypotheses, test different experimental conditions, and explore the scientific process, and interns got the chance to share their love of science with some wonderful budding scientists.
